Northwest Missouri State University is holding a summer agriculture academy through June 23 on its campus, dedicated to providing insight into precision agriculture technologies.
A total of 24 high school students are participating in the AgriVision Equipment Group Precision Agriculture Summer Academy, led by AgriVision staff and school faculty.
“We are excited to host the AgriVision Equipment Group Precision Agriculture Summer Academy for high school students and agricultural educators,” said Rod Barr, the director of Northwest’s School of Agricultural Sciences prior to the event. “The collaborative efforts of AgriVision Equipment Group and the School of Agricultural Sciences at Northwest will expose students and agricultural educators to some of the latest technologies being utilized in agriculture today.”
The students who are taking part in the academy come from schools throughout Mo., and four of them come from Iowa. There is no cost for the individuals to attend, and high school educators are also participating in the event.
“The world of precision agriculture is exciting, and an area in which we see tremendous growth opportunities for growers around us in the Midwest and all over the world,” said Jeremy Ostrander, the chief executive officer of AgriVision Equipment Group.
Northwest Missouri State University formed a partnership with AgriVision, the locally-owned agriculture company, back in 2015. The goal of the academy is to enhance the profession-based experiences that agriculture students receive through the school. More than 10% of Northwest Missouri State University’s undergraduate population is enrolled in its School of Agricultural Sciences.
