Today, Eis Implement is owned by the third generation, cousins Jon Eis and Chris Eis, but the single-store John Deere dealership has been serving Two Rivers, Wis., since 1946 when their grandfather started the business.
The two took over ownership just as the ag economy was heading into a recession, but have made strides in moving the business forward and have made changes to improve the dealership’s culture.
“From a management standpoint, if I can strive to listen to my staff — I may not agree with them — but I have to look at the data and understand it to see if what they are saying makes sense and can be a lucrative deal for the dealership,” Jon Eis says. “And sometimes I’ve just got to let them try it. Let them prove that it can be done and it'll work. That's where I've given my trust to them.
While the dealership remains a single-store operation, it’s grown and diversified from the original facility that housed two families above the dealership.
