Kubota, a major farm equipment manufacturer based in Japan, will be working with U.S. chipmaker Nvidia to continue its development of self-driving tractors, according to an Oct. 7 report in Nikkei Asia.
Reportedly, the tractors will be equipped with Nvidia graphics processing units and artificial intelligence, coupled with cameras to process collected data.
Kubota launched the Agrirobo line of tractors in 2017. These units use radar to account for the farm’s surroundings, but they require human supervision and they do not use AI. It’s believed that the technology developed by the partnership will be aimed at total autonomy.
