Being Too Negative About Sharing Farm Data Could Hinder Precision Technology Adoption
Humans have a natural negativity bias, causing us to overemphasize the bad while overlooking potential benefits. As we talk about all the negative consequences of sharing farm data, we’re preventing more widespread adoption of precision agriculture technology, argues agtech investor J. Matthew Pryor in this LinkedIn article. “That constant narrative of fear slows the adoption of many promising innovations and risks being more harmful than beneficial.”
Precision Ag Helps Customers Maximize Planting During Cold, Wet Spring
As customers in the Midwest and Upper Midwest wait for ideal planting conditions, there are several precision-related technologies they can use to maximize efficiency when they finally get out in the field. In this episode of the RDO Equipment Agriculture Technology podcast, RDO agronomist Tony Kramer shares the advice he’s giving customers about software and equipment that will make them more productive during short planting windows.

5 Smart Irrigation Agtech Companies to Watch in 2022
The global smart irrigation market reached an estimated value of $1.15 trillion in 2021, and experts predict it’s only up from there as the demand for efficient irrigation systems that conserve water increases and the cost of sensors and controllers falls. Farmer’s Weekly put together this list of 5 smart irrigation companies that are likely to make headlines in 2022 and beyond.
Hackers Give Due Props to John Deere
Most days, hackers are on the opposite side of John Deere over Right to Repair. But even a hacker can give credit where credit’s due, and they did in the May 2 “Hack of the Day” feature titled “For Once, The Long Arm of John Deere Presses the Right Button.” The story says Russian forces looted a Deere dealership in Melitopol, Ukraine, and took an estimated $5 million worth of farm machinery. "The perfect crime perhaps, save for the Deere computer system being used to remotely disable them leaving the crooks with combine harvesters they can’t even start ... Looters are seeking the help of tractor hackers, which may be unfortunate for them since the world’s go-to source for hacked Deere software is Ukraine.”
