‘All-in-One’ NEXAT Machine Goes to Work in Germany

Precision Farming Dealer’s video about the NEXAT “all-in-one” modular agricultural system continues to be one of the most popular videos on our website — and for good reason. It’s amazing to see the various implements needed to till, sow and harvest swap in and out of the 1,110-horsepower carrier system. In Part 2 of Farm World TV’s YouTube videos about NEXAT, watch the system’s first use in Germany and get a glimpse inside the factory producing these machines.

Why Farmers Think Variable-Rate Technology Isn’t Worth It

Variable rate technology came to market in 1996, but farmers still aren’t convinced it’s worth the time and money. “If the technology requires considerable training and a heavy management commitment once it is operating, farmers can see it as a much less attractive option,” Ed White writes in this article for The Western Producer.

Clear Value Proposition Needed to Overcome More Barriers to Precision Adoption

Continuing the theme of why customers aren’t using precision agriculture technology, this article from Wired argues the promises of precision technology haven’t been met. “Because most of the promised systems aren’t on the market, few final prices have been set, and there’s precious little real-world data proving whether they work,” the author writes. Companies will have to provide a clear value proposition to farmers in order to increase adoption.

Field Tests Underway for Salin 247’s Electric Planter

Iowa-based agtech startup Salin 247 is testing an autonomous electric drive unit for no-tilling corn and soybeans. Kyle Mehmen, general manager of MBS Family Farms in Plainfield, Iowa, is one of Salin 247’s customers testing the autonomous planter this year. “Long term, we feel like smaller autonomous equipment will probably be the future,” Mehmen tells No-Till Farmer in this article. “There are a lot of good things about the idea around smaller equipment, most of it being about compaction and efficiency.”

Newest Precision Ag Innovation Debuts on TikTok

In the funniest video we’ve seen all week, Mike Hofer, known as bigmikefarmer on TikTok, upgrades his 1970s tractor with GPS… in the form of a helmet on his head. Watch him plant sweet corn with his GPS helmet in this TikTok video (and enjoy the clever comments. Our personal favorite is “need an unlock code for that head”).
