Soiled Undies a Good Thing for Ryan Heiniger
Ryan Heiniger, who you may remember as the driving force behind Pheasants Forever’s focus on precision agriculture, unveiled a pair of soiled undies in June dug up from one of his corn fields. Tattered underwear are a sign of good soil health — and Ryan’s is great based on this photo he shared on Twitter. After only 45 days, he found basically just a waistband in a corn field that had a rye cover crop on it.
The big unveiling...soil your undies. In the ground only 45 days. A bushel of rye flown on last fall when soybeans just turned yellow. Corn planted May 10th. pic.twitter.com/7P8eIt9u6Q

After Florida’s citrus industry ended the 2022 growing season with its lowest production in eight decades, two startups in the University of Florida’s business incubator are using AI to create a new tool to help the industry combat diseases that are lowering production. Satlantis and Agriculture Intelligence are creating a partnership to speed up satellite data collection to demonstrate growth and health of trees, including nutrient analysis to inform fertilization treatments.
