Is Deere Losing Ground in the Drone Market?
Our Ben Thorpe recently examined the mystery surrounding John Deere’s ag spray drone. Shane Thomas takes it one step further in his latest edition of Upstream Ag Insights, exploring whether Deere is missing out on drones or if the market just isn’t ready. “In 2019, John Deere had a significant presence of drones at their Agritechnica display,” Thomas writes. “Since, then there has been little communication from John Deere surrounding a drone offering— meanwhile, they have announced numerous new products and partnerships, including See and Spray, ExactShot, a partnership with SpaceX and a host of other initiatives and technologies, including those discussed at their 2022 Leaps Unlocked Event. Drones have not been a part of their talking points, even with all of the improvement over the last 5 years. It begs the question: Is Deere missing out? Are they behind? Or does something else position them well for when and if drone demand grows

Nebraska Breaks Grounds on Precision Ag Research Center
Monday was a big day at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as they broke ground on the National Center for Resilient and Regenerative Precision Agriculture. The state-of-the-art research center will focus on challenges and opportunities in agricultural innovation. “I believe the work that will take place in this facility will usher in a new era of American agriculture, and I’m thrilled that what happens next in agriculture will happen first in Nebraska,” says Mike Boehm, vice chancellor for UNL’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
