New Lightweight Autonomous Tractor Aims to Benefit Small Growers
Agovor Limited’s new autonomous lightweight electric tractor, GOVOR, is designed to automate tasks for row crops and specialty crops. Future Farming gets the scoop in this 1-on-1 interview with company founder Richard Beaumont. “There are a lot of small growers that are not being serviced by technology,” Beaumont says. “And there are a lot of barriers to entry. With a unit of this size, we can service a small grower, but also a large grower.”
Companies Showcase New Precision Technology at Research Farm
Barn Owl Precision Agriculture, Carbon Robotics and Verdant Robotics showed off new technology for Western Colorado growers at the Colorado State University Extension Research Center. This kind of technology will allow the shrinking labor pool to be deployed more effectively as the labor crunch seems to be getting worse, says Chuck Hanagan, president of the Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. “It’s almost impossible to staff your farms with labor anymore,” he says in a recap article from Colorado Public Radio. “It’s not the most rewarding. It’s back-breaking work.”
