What Dealers Currently Think About Drones, Automation & AI
This initial look at the CropLife/Purdue 2024 Precision Survey explores dealers' plans for the latest precision technologies. A few key takeaways: "About a third (of dealers surveyed) say they are currently offering crop inputs (such as a pesticide) applied with a UAV/drone — but fully half say they will be offering this in three years, a remarkable rise from three years ago. Robotics for soil sampling, crop scouting, and for crop weeding are only offered by a small percentage of dealers now, but more dealers plan to offer these in the future. Artificial intelligence that identifies weeds for spraying is offered by just 11% of dealers now, but a quarter say they will offer this service three years out"
Deere Dealer Hosts Precision Conference for Customers
Go inside the Stotz Equipment Precision Summit in this latest episode of Tech at Work. The 25-store John Deere dealer hosted the sixth annual conference at the Dixie Convention Center in St. George, Utah over the winter. The event was organized and hosted by the company’s precision team and brought in over 160 attendees.
An Overlooked Tool for Selling Used Equipment
Check out this blog from our sister publication, Farm Equipment, detailing how an extended service contract helps manage and sell used equipment. "When customers perceive added value, they’re willing to pay more. In an inflationary market, adding value reduces the sticker shock. Look for tools like an extended service contract, where a customer’s perception of the benefit outweighs the additional cost."
When Does Electrical Equipment Make Sense?
Titan Machinery writes in this new blog post, "Electric equipment. It looks slick, is definitely trending, and is often labeled 'the future.' Nevertheless, it's no secret it also garners little genuine interest from audiences like cash crop and livestock farmers or throughout larger construction operations. Realistically, it often elicits disdain and pushback on the initiatives altogether."
Electromagnetic Mapping in Action
This video from Australia shows how one farm and business is using electromagnetic mapping and other precision technologies to help offset rising inputs costs.
