New Grower Pilot Program will Focus on Phosphorous and Potassium Applications
DuPont Pioneer announced plans for a new grower pilot program that will expand on the input management offerings in its recently launched Encirca Yield services platform to include phosphorous and potassium management. The pilots will field-test and refine the new services which complement the ground-breaking Encirca Yield Nitrogen Management Service that was released in July.
In July, growers began signing up for the Nitrogen Management Service – the first offering in the Encirca Yield platform. The service was launched following a successful pilot program with more than 100 growers participating on more than 60,000 acres across the Midwest. Pioneer launched a nitrogen (N) service first because it is one of the most difficult inputs to use efficiently and misuse can be costly. Pioneer research shows some growers are losing an estimated $50 to $60 per acre by applying too much or too little nitrogen. The Encirca Yield Nitrogen Management Service helps growers limit these losses and secure more profit from each acre.
“Building on the recent successful commercial release of the Encirca Yield Nitrogen Management Service, the addition of phosphorous and potassium to the input management portfolio will improve our customers’ ability to assess crop performance in real-time and give them information to make holistic application decisions that will help them maximize productivity and profitability of every acre,” said Steve Reno, DuPont Pioneer vice president, regional business director for U.S. and Canada. “Grower adoption of the nitrogen service has been strong and many are already seeking additional congruent services.”
“This year was our first time trying variable rate nitrogen applications so I had no idea what to expect out of the Encirca Yield Nitrogen Management Service,” said Chad Galles, farm manager for an operation in Amboy, Minn. “I’m busy so I relied heavily on my Encirca services agent to run the N application models, including taking into account some heavy rain events, and visually it appears the final recommendation was right on. If I get the yield I’m expecting looking at my fields today, then using this tool next year is a no-brainer.”
DuPont Pioneer is signing up a limited group of growers for the new phosphorous and potassium offerings this fall. Local Encirca certified services agents (CSAs) will work with participating growers to collect and analyze data and turn that information into actionable crop management insights.
The Encirca Yield platform relies on several innovative enabling technologies that mimic crop production throughout the growing season. Strategic collaborations with eight U.S. land grant universities, the USDA and University of Missouri, and DTN/The Progressive Farmer are providing enhanced crop modeling, advanced soil mapping and hyper-local weather data to fuel the analytics featured in Encirca Yield.
Encirca Yield is the newest offering in the Encirca services program. It joins the Encirca? View platform launched earlier this year. Encirca View is a free mobile-enabled information hub offering organized crop observations and notes, and an industry first – Community View – provides real-time aggregated insight into crop conditions and soil moisture ratings. Users can upgrade to fee-based Encirca View Premium for field-by-field weather powered by individual weather stations and commodity market news and insight.
